Marshall McKann, a coal magnate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, attends a concert with his wife and her friend at the Carnegie Music Hall. An opera singer named Kitty Ayrshire is performing, but McKann has little interest in music or the arts, however, he becomes enchanted by the beautiful singer who challenges his social ideals and his views on women. This animation is based on a short story by Willa Cather first published in 1917 in Harper's Monthly Magazine.
